Not the type to read into rumors or get too caught up in them however when my Twitter timeline became flooded this morning with people going on and on about the iPhone 5, I had to do a bit of investigation.

After coming to discover the reason being for this endless talk of the iPhone, it’s understandable why there would cause for concern because it’s being rumored that the next generation iPhone is going to be sold for $800.

There is no clear indication as to where this rumor began but if it true, this new phone better have teleportation powers or something to explain the ridiculous amount of costing so much.

It is being said that the rumor may have started when an article was found on gamenguide.com, which showed a screenshot of a Chinese auction site displaying a picture supposedly of the iPhone 5 with the equivalent price tag of $800 to $1,000.

Of course this sparked some controversy with consumers, both iPhone and non-iPhone users with the phrase “iPhone 5 $800″ became the second most popular non-promoted trending topic on Twitter worldwide, and the third most popular in the US. Also trending was the hashtag #800DollarsForAniPhone and “For $800″.

  • One user posted: “iPhone 5 $800 psft It betta come with Barack Obama number in it or 1/2 Of Oprah’s bank account.”
  • Another tweeted: “iPhone 5 $800? Siri better turn into a jet pack when I put it on Airplane Mode.”
  • This last one from my own timeline read : “#800DollarsForAniPhone it better have a gps to heaven.”

The big mystery behind this whole rumor in regards to the responses on Twitter is where the actual speculation about an “$800 iPhone” started. Since almost all of the tweets continuously bashed the proposed price tag, no one can pinpoint a direct link to where the cost of the phone is being reported. But since there is no legitimate source as to the price of the phone itself, the reactions from this whole thing is extremely entertaining.

Truth be told if this rumor turns out to be true I don’t know who to be more disappointed in, Apple for putting such a high value on a device that’s going to be outdated soon by a newer generation or the people that will actually save up their money to go buy this phone. If you have the money and means to buy this phone then hey, more power to you.

This does not apply to you. However if you amongst the general population, buying an $800 iPhone should not be part of your budget or plans. For $800 do you realize what you can do with that amount of money? That’s an airline ticket, student loans, rent, multiple car payments, the start up money of the beginning process of acquiring assets such as stocks and bonds.

I mean the list goes on and on. Think about it :if you owe any kind of debt, as stated earlier wanting to purchase this phone should really be the least of your concerns right now but that’s just my opinion. Let’s hear yours. How do you feel about an $800 iPhone?
