A video went viral earlier this week that showed a man eating another man’s face (for the full story click here). The story circulating in the media blames a bad strand of LSD but Bath Salts actually pack a dangerous double punch similar to cocaine plus methamphetamines.

According to new statistics from the American Association of Poison Control Center, Bath Salts can prompt suicidal thoughts, violent behavior, hallucinations and agitation as well as high blood pressure, increased heart rate and even death. In the Miami-Dade County, there have been four similar cases since March of this year of what was thought to be excited delirium (initially associated with cocaine abuse, and symptoms include bizarre and aggressive behavior, shouting, paranoia, panic, violence toward others and unexpected physical strength), however; none have been as severe and violent as the man who ate another man’s face.

In April, 21-year-old George Salgado suffered similar symptoms. Police said they had to use a stun-gun on Salgado due to his aggressive behavior. Salgado’s victim placed a call to 911 shortly after the attack, “There’s a naked man, and he’s aggressive”, he told dispatch, according to NBC Miami. “He tore my clothes and tried to bite my neck.” Salgado had taken three stamps of LSD, according to police reports.

An emergency room doctor speculated Bath Salts was the culprit noting a similar attack other than Eugene’s and Salgado where it took six security guards to subdue an 150-pound man after he overdosed. Bath Salts were banned in Florida last year but new formulas have found its way to Miami Dade County. There have also been other deaths associated with Bath Salts from people running on the highway, being chased by police and just collapsing.
