For weeks we have heard one version of what happened to Trayvon Martin from media outlets, his friends and family. The version we have come to known; Martin was walking back to his father’s fiance’s house after purchasing Arizona ice tea and two bags of skittles. Zimmerman followed him, called 911 to report “suspicious” behavior and when Trayvon Martin started running Zimmerman got out of his car and followed him. Moments later Trayvon Martin was dead with one bullet to the chest.
However, The Orlando Sentinel released a much different story yesterday and police have already confirmed its accuracy in accordance with the police report. According to Zimmerman, he was walking to the grocery store when he noticed a suspicious male in his gated community. He called 911 and told dispatch Martin seemed to be “checking him out” and was approaching him and had something in his hands.
He later told police Zimmerman began to flee and went in pursuit of him even though police dispatch advised him not too. He said he lost Trayvon and was returning to his SUV when the young boy approached him from out of nowhere. Martin asked Zimmerman, “Do you have a problem”? In which Zimmerman replied, “No”. Zimmerman said Martin then punched him in the nose and jumped on top of him sending his body to the ground. Martin began bashing his head into the sidewalk repeatedly and that’s when he began yelling for help, seconds later he fired.
Police have confirmed when they arrived to the scene Zimmerman had a bloody nose, lacerations to the back of his head and grass/mud stains on his back. Zimmerman has yet to be charged.
