You’ll be hearing it soon enough if you haven’t heard it so we at Newspitter thought it’d be best to share this news with you all. It is true that Asamoah Gyan aka Baby Jet has officially decided to retire from the Black Stars.
Gyan, who plays as a striker for Emirati club Al Ainin the UAE Pro-League is on loan from English club Sunderland of the Premier League.
He is well known for scoring three goals at the 2010 FIFA World Cup but ultimately more famous for missing a penalty in the last minute of extra time in Ghana’s quarter final defeat by Uruguay. He’s recently become more famous due to missing another penalty kick when the Black Stars played against Zambia in AFCON earlier this month.
He was unfortunately blamed for the Black Stars not advancing to the next level which in my opinion is completely silly. Now maybe as a result of all the Gyan bashing, Asamoah aka Baby Jet has decided to bow out of the Black Stars. His manager, Dentaa, stated on her twitter page and said, “ Yes I can now confirm to you that @ASAMOAH_GYAN has retired indefinitely from the Ghana Black Stars.” Asamoah himself also took to his Twitter page and re-confirmed it also stating, “Yes its true I’m giving myself a break from the Ghana Black Stars for a while.
Thanks to all my fans for all your love and support.” Honestly I do not blame him. When you have thousands, possibly millions of people angry at you because of a game, I would bow out too. I mean it became so bad that he even refused to fly back to Ghana with the rest of his team mates after the AFCON match was over, probably because of him fearing for his life and what the Ghanaian community may have done to him as soon as he stepped foot in the Ghanaian soil. It’s rather unfortunate as now the Black Stars have lost a prominent striker.
All I can say is that whoever made the statement, “sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me” clearly hasn’t gone through what Asamoah Gyan has gone through these last few weeks. Well for everyone that was hating him, you all have gotten your wish. Wish nothing but the best for you and all of your future endeavors Asamoah.
