In April 2009, in Houston Texas, a 12 year old girl, who’s not being named because she’s a minor and an alleged victim, walks into her father’s room with his .38 caliber revolver at hand. She finds him fast asleep, she aims, shoots and the rest is history.

According to ABC news the girl is now 15 years old. The trial went for 3 weeks and at the end the jury deliberated for four hours. The defense argued that the night of the murder the father Mark Nelson was watching her bathe. She asked her father to leave the bathroom, but his response was a dark response stating that she would later regret asking him to leave. She argued that she was unsure of her father’s next move and was afraid for her life, so she killed him.

The prosecutors argued that the girl’s action was a pre-meditated and cold-blooded murder that took place because he was strict. They also stated that if in fact the father Mark was abusing her she should have reported him before or after the murder. However she did neither. It wasn’t until the trial she mentioned the abuse. According to ABC news the psychiatrists on the case testified that it is common for a child to lie about being a victim of abuse. If the girl in question was found guilty she would have faced 40 years! I think that’s enough ammunition to conjure up a big lie don’t you?

The child is release to her mother, Miranda Jackson. The mother is very happy to be reunited with her daughter, however Mark Nelson’s mother, Leona Nelson, fears for her own life.

“She’s been set free so she can do whatever she wants on the streets,” Leona Nelson to KTRK. “That was the best defense in the world for a little girl to accuse your father of abusing you because people do not want to believe that a 12-year-old child would go in there and kill her father unless he abused her.”

Spitters, what do you think? Is she guilty? You be the judge.
