Monday morning the New York Knick’s star forward, Amar’e, lost his elder brother in a tragic car accident on a Lake Wales, Florida highway. He immediately flew to Florida upon receiving the horrific news.
According to TMZ, Amar’e Stoudemire’s brother, Hazell, 35, was driving “at a high rate of speed” when his 2007 Cadillac Escalade hit the back of a trailor. Hazell Stoudemire, who wasn’t wearing a seat belt instantly died at the scene.
Amar’e left the Knicks and and has joined his family in mourning. The time of his return to the Knicks is unknown. “My thoughts and prayers and everything is with him, whatever time he needs to take, he’ll take. And we’ll get him back as soon as possible.” said Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni.
The Florida highway patrol is uncertain whether the accident was caused by alcohol consumption, however there is an ongoing investigation to get to the bottom of the cause of this tragic event.
Our hearts go out to the Stoudemire family at this trying time.
