When I first found out about this story I had a mix of emotions. I went from shock, sadness to anger. Days ago marked 2 years since the tragic earthquake and now this?! Monday night, in the capital, Port Au Prince, a dumper truck carrying rubble from the mortifying earthquake moved through a busy route called Delmas where the driver lost control of the truck.
According to Nadia Lochard of Haiti’s Civil Protection Office, the truck crashed into a small bus into the busy street of pedestrians and merchants. The driver fled the scene leaving 29 dead and 57 people injured.
The cause of the accident is still uncertain but witnesses said it looked as if the truck’s breaks failed. My heart goes out to all family members in hurt for losing a loved one to such a horrifying and unfortunate accident.
Haitian official are on the hunt for the runaway driver. Meanwhile lives have already been lost and others are still fighting to stay alive. I can’t help to think that there is a dark cloud hovering over the island.
I only urge my fellow Haitian people to find unity and strength in each other because only then will our country find peace and prosperity.
