US boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr has been jailed for 90 days by a Las Vegas court after pleading guilty to assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Josie Harris, in 2010. Pretty Boy was fined an excruciating $2,500 and needs to complete 100 hours of community service. Few questions will come to mind just by the first few lines such as does the punishment fit the crime? Why is he only going to jail for 90 days? How come he wasn’t hit with a hefty fine like Roger Godell has been doing to his NFL players; not to mention they are hitting other men and not women. Do you see where i’m going with this?
Mayweather, 34, agreed to a plea deal, meaning he will not have to answer felony charges of beating Ms. Harris and threatening two of their children. Now this does make me question a lot about our judicial system and the under the “table” deals that is constantly happening with wealthy and famous people. Prosecutors said Mayweather’s history meant jail time was appropriate. “He just continually gets himself into trouble and he is able to get himself out of it as well,” Prosecutor Lisa Luzaich told Judge Melissa Saragosa.
Mayweather has been told to report to jail on 6 January. His jail sentence means he will be released only two months before a major fight against the Philippines’ Manny Pacquiao, scheduled to take place on 5 May.
Let’s just hope that Floyd does not turn too much into a pretty boy in jail if you know what i mean. It’s obvious that inmates will be looking to see how tough he really is with that mouth of his. I just hope Mayweather is ready and able to fight Pacquiao when he gets out without giving any lame excuses for knowing that he might lose the fight. Don’t get me wrong, I like Mayweather because he exudes a real skill, he’s very confident in his abilities but his ultimate downfall will be his ego, and Pacquiao’s fast and furious hands.
It’s bad enough that you put your hands on a woman but when you do it in front of your children? What kind of example are you setting for your kids? Now you’re telling them that it’s alright for them to put their hands on a female. Yes, great job Mayweather. But wait a minute, his punishment is only 90 days in jail?
